Veneer Core Grading Guide

"K+" Grade

­ 1/4" maximum opening
­ Any size, number sound knots
­ Up to four splits per panel 1/4" x 12"
­ Generally used as crossbands under face and back of an "A" or "B" panel (oak and ash use K+ under the face and back on all grades)
­ Smooth peel

 

"L" Grade

­ Any number open defects to maximum 1"
­ Any number of solid knots
­ End splits up to 1/4"
­ Used as center core line in "A" or "B" grade panel or as crossband under face and back of "C" grade or lower birch or maple panel
­ Some rough peel

"M" Grade

­ Any number open defects up to 2½"
­ Any number or size of solid knots
­ Rough peel
